In late October, a donor reached out to me with a heartfelt proposal: to assist 13-year-old Kushal Thapa in undergoing a much-needed operation on his right hand. Two years ago, steel was implanted in his hand, but its removal had been delayed due to financial constraints. To confirm the case, I contacted Kushal's mother. The Lamjung Community Hospital estimated the cost of the steel extraction at Rs 85,000. Doubtful, I sought confirmation from others in Nepal, only to learn that such procedures are indeed as costly as the initial implant.
